Add the butter, olive oil, carrots, onion and celery to a large pan. Cook for 5-10 minutes until the vegetables have softened.

Add in the flour, tomato puree and stock pots and mix well.

Add in the beef, salt and pepper and slowly add in 600ml warm water. Cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring well.

If using a slow cooker, cook for a few hours until the beef is soft.

Alternatively, add the pan to the oven (with a lid) for 2 hrs 30 to 3 hrs or cook on a low heat on the hob for 3 hrs 30, stirring occasionally.

Optional: Before serving, add a few tbsp of gravy granules to thicken the stew and add extra flavour.

Serve with your choice of mashed potato or roast potatoes and enjoy!
