1-Ingredient Caramel (or Dulce de leche)
Super easy, silky and smooth!
Ingredients
Directions
- 1
Remove the label from the can of sweetened condensed milk, ensuring the can is unopened and undamaged. If any glue residue remains, it is best to wipe it off to prevent it from sticking to the pot during boiling.
- 2
Fill a large pot with enough water to fully submerge the can.
- 3
Carefully place the can into the pot and boil for 2 hours, ensuring the can is always fully covered. Add more water if necessary during cooking to keep the can submerged.
- 4
Once done, carefully remove the can from the water using tongs or a slotted spoon and let it cool completely before opening.
- 5
Once cooled, open the can and enjoy your rich, silky caramel!
Notes
Note: There is some concern about toxins potentially leaching from the can when boiling it, especially if the can is lined with materials that may contain harmful chemicals, like BPA (bisphenol-A). However, most modern food cans are designed to withstand heat, and many manufacturers have switched to BPA-free linings. It is best to use cans labeled BPA-free for this preparation.
