Upside-Down Caramel Apple Cake
So, here’s the dessert that looks like it took hours but took less effort than picking a holiday outfit. It’s pretty enough to pass as bakery-level but cozy enough to feel homemade—and it’ll get you all the compliments without breaking a sweat. Plus, caramel. Need I say more?

Directions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease and line a 9-inch round pan.
- 2
Start by placing your apple slices next to each other in the pan.
- 3
Caramel magic: In a saucepan, stir together sugar and water. Once it starts to bubble and turn that golden brown we all know and love, add in the butter and let it melt (try not to eat it right off the spoon). Remove from heat and add the vanilla.
- 4
Pour the caramel into the pan and arrange your apple slices over it like you’re decorating a holiday table.
- 5
The batter: In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients – flour, both sugars, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the wet ingredients – milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Combine the wet and dry mixtures until you’ve got a smooth, golden batter, then pour it over the apple caramel layer.
- 6
Bake for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean and the top is a warm golden colour. Let it cool for about 15 minutes, then run a knife around the edges and flip it over (think tahdig vibes) for the big reveal!
