Traditional Balkan Stuffed Peppers

    Finely chop the onion, garlic, and carrots, or use a food processor to mince them.

    Sauté the vegetables in some oil and pork lard.

    Once the vegetables are soft, add the meat, brown it, and season.

    Chop the spam and add it to the pan as well.

  5. 5

    Rinse the rice and add it to the mixture.

    Thoroughly wash the peppers, remove the seeds, and make a small cut at the top.

    Fill the peppers with the mixture, seal the top with a slice of potato, and place them in an ovenproof pan or baking dish. Garnish with tomatoes.

    Mix water with tomato paste, some oil, and basil or oregano, bring it to a boil, and pour it over the peppers.

    Cover the dish and bake for about 40 minutes at 200°C (400°F). Then bake uncovered for another 10-15 minutes at 190°C (375°F) on convection.

    Serve with sour cream and enjoy.
