    Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius fan. Slice the figs and set aside.

    In a bowl, beat the butter and sugar until fluffy. Then whisk in the eggs until combined.

    Mix in the self-raising flour and ground almond using a spatula. Add the almond extract and baking powder, and mix once again.

    In a pre-greased and pre-lined baking dish, line the sliced figs. Then pour the cake batter and smooth over.

    Bake for 50 minutes and allow to cool for half an hour before removing from the tin and serving.
