Nostalgic Trileçe the Albanian Way
I grew up eating this iconic dessert and it still remains a high priority on my to do list when I visit my family in Kosova! This deliciousness litterally tastes like a cloud and is my fave take on a tres leches!
Ingredients
Milk mixture
Caramel sauce
Directions
- 1
Preheat oven to 190°C (fan) and attach a piece of parchment paper to a 25x35’ish cm baking tray.
- 2
Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
- 3
Beat the eggs and sugar on high speed for 5-6 minutes till it foams up and tripled in size. Add vanilla.
- 4
Sift and fold in the dry ingredients into the egg/sugar mixture carefully until the batter is homogenius. Be careful not to overmix!
- 5
Pour the batter into the cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the sponge cool down completely before adding the milk.
- 6
Combine milk, double cream and condensed milk in a pot.
- 7
Heat it up over medium to high heat, until its very hot to the touch.
- 8
Pour it over the cooled down trileçe sponge and let it sit out for 10-15 minutes before refrigerating.
- 9
I prefer to serve it the next day, as the sponge gets more time to soak up the milk, but if you are impatient, you may serve it after 5-6 hours.
- 10
Spread the caramel on top. Decorate with the iconic white swirls by creating straight lines with condensed milk and swirling with toothpick! Enjoy!
