    Add your sliced red onions to a glass jar until full

    Add your peeled garlic cloves, peppercorns, salt, and sugar to the jar

    Add hot water and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio until liquid covers the onions entirely.

    Add your bay leaves and let it sit on the counter until it comes to room temperature
