Shepherd’s Pie is such a British classic. I grew up on it along with many other mince based dinners.

    Heat a large pan and colour the onions in a little oil before adding the garlic.

    Add the mince & season well. Break up the mince & cook for 10 mins.

    Add the wine & let it reduce. Then add the Worc Sauce, Tom Puree & carrot, stock & oregano.

    Bring to a simmer & cook on the hob for an hour or put it in a slow cooker on low all day or in a 130 fan oven covered for 4-6 hours.

    Add the peeled potatoes to boiling water & simmer until tender, about 20 mins. Drain & mash or put through a ricer adding the butter, milk & seasoning.

    Spoon the mince into an ovenproof dish & top with the mash. Bake at 180 fan for 30 mins or until golden.
