Happy 2nd birthday to my beautiful son! This chocolate birthday cake has just the right amount of chocolate flavour for little ones.

    Add the butter and sugar to a medium bowl. Beat with a hand-held electric mixer until fluffy.

    Add in the eggs one at a time then add in the baking powder, and half of the flour to the bowl. Beat on the lowest speed.

    Add half of the milk.

    Then add the remaining flour, cocoa powder and milk and beat on the lowest speed to just combine the batter.

    Portion into 2 round cake tins.

    Bake for 20-22 minutes or until just golden brown around the edges and a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean.


Notes

I used 20x20 cake tins, but suggest using smaller tins or doubling the recipe for a thicker sponge.
