    Heat large pot over medium heat. Add 1/4 cup of sugar and stir constantly until melted and lightly golden brown. This will take about 2-3 minutes.

    Add water, cinnamon stick and cloves, stir. Sugar will harden at the bottom for the pot because of the cold water, but will lift and dissolve into the water once it heats up. keep scraping the bottom. Bring the water to a gentle simmer then stir in quinoa, apples and pineapple. Cook for 40-45 minutes, stirring frequently. The fruit will cook down and the quinoa will soften.

    Stir in the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar at the end of cooking time (feel free too adjust sugar quantity you add at this point to your taste). Then, in a small bowl stir together water and cornstarch. Pour into the pot and and stir, cooking for another 2-3 minutes. The mixture will slightly thicken. Remove from heat and serve.
